Hi, I'm Janet Ottaviano, a Speech Pathologist with experience supporting children with their communication needs, including speech sound disorders, language disorders, social communication difficulties and literacy.
I have a special interest in early language development, speech sound disorders and the use of alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) to support children with limited verbal language to participate in successful and powerful communication. I am also passionate about supporting families to play an integral part in their child's speech and language development.
I am a PROMPT trained and Hanen 'It Takes Two to Talk' and 'More Than Words' therapist. I am also trained in the use of Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display (PODD) AAC system and am a Certified Practicing Member of Speech Pathology Australia.
I understand that life gets busy with families having three children of my own, and aim to tailor therapy and home practice to work within your unique routines.
An initial assessment will take place during your first consultation. Assessment sessions are 60 mins in length, however may take more than one session depending on the needs of your child. An initial assessment may also include consultation with medical practitioners, other allied health professionals, teachers and caregivers to help guide assessment and intervention.
A written report will be provided within two weeks of the completion of an initial or review assessment. Reports can also be provided for NDIS plan reviews or other needs on request.
Fun, engaging evidence-based therapy will be centred around your child's needs and provided in line their interests and motivations. 45 min and 60 min therapy sessions are available on a weekly or fortnightly basis.
I specialise in the following areas -
A very important part of my role is to build family and caregiver's capacity to support their child's communication skills beyond therapy sessions. This helps your child generalise skills learned in therapy into their daily life. As such, families and caregivers are very much encouraged to be included in the therapy process.
Bayside Speech Pathology Service is a mobile private practice servicing the Brisbane Bayside suburbs of Wynnum, Manly and surrounds.
Therapy can be provided in the comfort of your own home, or in your child's school, kindy or child care (subject to site visit access).
I am also able to provide telehealth services if required.
